Getting to Port Hinichinbrook:
Flying
Fly into Townsville or Cairns and then hire a car or catch a bus or train.
Townsville Airport is a key regional airport with Qantas, Virgin Blue and Jetstar providing regular flights to Brisbane, Sydney and Cairns.
Cairns Airport has major international and domestic terminals.
Driving
Drive travelling along the Bruce Highway, Tully is 141 kms south of Cairns and 209 kms north of Townsville.
Various car hire companies are based at Cairns and Townsville airports and at locations throughout each city. Hire car companies are also based in Innisfail and Mission Beach.
Busses
Greyhound Australia and Premier Motor Service provide daily bus services from Brisbane to Cairns and Cairns to Brisbane. Mission Beach Dunk Island Connections provides a daily bus service from Mission Beach to Cairns and Port Douglas.
Trains
The Tilt Train travels north departing from Brisbane on Mondays and Fridays and travels south departing from Cairns on Sundays and Wednesdays. The journey takes approximately 25 hours.
The Sunlander train travels north departing from Brisbane on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and travels south departing from Cairns on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This journey takes around 32 hours.
Port Hinchinbrook & Surrounds Weather
The Cardwell Shire experiences a seasonal tropical climate characterised by hot dry summers, cooler winters and a wet season which can bring cyclones and floods. Within Australia’s wettest region, the average yearly rainfall recorded at Tully is over 4000mm (160 inches), with higher falls on the mountain ranges near the town. Cardwell and Mission Beach, however, experience less rainfall.
